Conferences and Symposia

The Transition Design Institute organizes and participates in conferences and symposia focused on designing for transitions, systems change, and sustainability transitions. Since 2015, TDI has convened international symposia in the United States and the United Kingdom (twice), helped organize a fourth in Spain, and is planning a fifth in Mexico City in summer 2026. These gatherings bring together researchers, practitioners, and educators to advance the discourse on systemic change.

TDI Publications

Since 2015, the Transition Design Institute has contributed to the advancement of scholarship, research, and practice in Transition Design through self-published articles, peer-reviewed papers, and co-edited journals. TDI’s publications explore topics such as designing for transitions, preferred futures, systems-level change, and cosmopolitan localism. The Institute has also collaborated with international partners on co-authored publications, broadening the global discourse on sustainability transitions and systemic change.

Resources for Transitions and Systemic Change

TDI has developed a resource hub for scholars, researchers, and practitioners engaged in catalyzing systems-level change. It features curated links to websites, downloadable articles, videos, books, reports, and frameworks relevant to sustainability transitions and systemic change. By providing access to diverse yet related materials, this collection supports change makers seeking knowledge, strategies, and tools for advancing their initiatives.
